Functional Skills exams for home-educated and out-of-school young people
Young people who are home-educated or outside mainstream education can sit Functional Skills English and Maths exams as external candidates at Our Future Tutoring's (OFT) approved exam centre in Eltham, South East London. Exams run from Entry Level to Level 2 and are awarded by Open Awards.
A route to a recognised qualification
For young people who are not in school, Functional Skills offer a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated qualification in English and Maths. Entry Level builds confidence, and Level 2 is accepted as equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C.
Support before the exam
OFT also provides specialist English and Maths tuition, so young people can prepare with an experienced, Enhanced DBS checked tutor before sitting their exam.
Extra support on the day
Young people with a disability, learning difficulty or health need may be able to have reasonable adjustments such as extra time, rest breaks, or a reader or scribe. Requests must be made at registration so they can be approved by Open Awards at least 20 working days before the exam.
